California Assembly Member Catherine Stefani Introduces Groundbreaking Bill
First-in-the-nation legislation from California Assembly Member Catherine Stefani (District 19, San Francisco) will ensure taxpayer dollars used to buy firearms, ammunition, and related accessories for law enforcement DO NOT go to businesses with serious violations. AB458 is sponsored by Brady.
This bill will provide a significant financial incentive for vendors to use business practices shown to reduce gun trafficking, gun crime, and gun violence. It addresses a shocking problem recently exposed by a Brady investigation: Law enforcement agencies across California have spent millions buying firearms from vendors who break the law.
California State Assembly Member Catherine Stefani said: “Studies have shown that guns used in crimes often trace back to dealers who disregard the law. By leveraging California’s immense buying power and requiring a rigorous vetting process for state law enforcement to purchase guns, we can demand higher standards, prevent public funds from going to dealers who violate gun safety laws, and keep our communities safer.” Read more here.
